Gnomes – all shiny and new!

My friend, Cat, got me into painting gnomes and I have quite a few of them hanging out in the garden. They were painted a few years ago but in the elements have started to fade and were in desperate need of a repaint. Jalcopo , Jean-Baptiste and Phillipe the snail went first. Then the new kids on the block Henri and Cedric the swan had a lovely new coat of paint. Larch even got involved sitting on my lap watching me paint. I think they look rather lovely sitting on my window sill staring out at the world (I’m not sure if my next door neighbour agrees though!).

Gnomeo, Gnomeo.

I was enthused by looking at my gnome book yesterday and also looking at some pictures by Wee Wonderful’s Pesky Gnomes.

So I got sketching…..

Gnome SketchThen I got making…..I wanted to make a Gnomeo and Juliet. But once I had chosen the colours for my Gnomeo and sewn the clothes on he looked a little femine so I’ve made him into a her instead – Mrs Gnomeo.

As you can see I ditched the elf like looking boots in favour of plain round ones. I also ended up performing an ear removal operation as once I had put the facial features the ears were right up above her eyes and it just looked weird.

The next one I make will be Mr Gnomeo. I might get making today -we’ll see…..watch this space!
