Hats One Two Three…..

Larch loves hats (totally loves them) so much so that she throws them out the buggy just so she can get new ones!

So I was down to one hat and to be honest its a bit big and floppy so I decided to create a new one for her. Simple I thought mmm….. I found a great pattern and followed it to the letter for size 1-3yr old. This one was based on six segments fitting together and then a rim around them all. When I had made the first part I quickly realised it was MASSIVE! HUGE! too big for even my friends four yr old daughter…  and on Larch you can see;

So I thought forget the patterns and went off and did my own pattern based on her current hat except I didn’t account for the fact that it was only four segments and the rim part needed to be bigger so it turned out like a gnome hat.

So then take three – same pattern as above but bigger and finally it fits perfectly with a little room for growth! It’s reversible so can be the aqua blue with spots or navy blue with spots (as in pic) great for matching with lots of outfits.

Wow! One hat took lots more sewing hours than I anticipated!! But I am really pleased with the result (and will sell the other smaller hat on Esty!!!!)

I am now congratulating myself on the making of the Goldilocks hats and on having actually had the chance to post about something I’ve created recently as that just doesn’t seem to happen these days.

*UPDATE*

Highchair – New cushion – High Five

A quick blog whilst Larch is sleeping. Her new high chair (Obaby Megan) came yesterday but the seat was very slippy and she kept slipping down/ wanting to slip down (fun for babies). So last night after many months away from the sewing machine I got it out dusted it off (literally) and made a neat little cushion to hopefully stop her slipping about!

Turning from a boys coat to pretty girlie coat

I have been searching for a new coat for larch for a couple of weeks. I wanted something girlie but not too girlie which proved hard to find. My Mum came up with the suggestion of buying a boy’s coat and adding to it. Then if the next baby (in the future!) was a boy I could just take the stuff off it. Also a coat is quite pricey so it would get more wear for the money.

I found a lovely warm fleecy navy blue duffel coat which I added some bits to. Here are some before, during and after pics. It’s a simple idea but really effective and also makes the coat unique. I may have to try this again with other bits and pieces.

Open House

I am having a stand at an open house next Tuesday from 9.30am – 11am.

I will have a selection of things that would make good christmas presents.

Come along to Lucys’ House *address removed*

Pumpkin Costume is pumpkinlicious!

I really, really wanted to make a Halloween outfit for Larch as she is going to a ‘Halloween Babies Tea Party’.

After surfing the net a bit I saw lots of pictures of babies dressed as pumpkins who looked really cute and I thought that would be perfect. Except if you want to buy a whole costume your fine – patterns…mmm not. Finding the fabric was easy – the first charity shop I looked in had a large mens shirts the perfect colour.

The tricky part was a pumpkin pattern -  you cant get a pattern anywhere! So I took Larch to my Mums and used her massive dining table to design and make templates for the pumpkin costume. I based it on a wedge of an orange shape but totally over estimated the size of the curve that I would need and the practice run was far too round. After a second attempt it was perfect. After discussing lots of ways to finish the costume with Mum (the sewing guru!), using ties or sewing it all the way round, how it would last another year or two etc I decided to go with making two halves that tie together over the shoulders and round under the arms.

If I can get my technological know-how up to scratch I may try uploading it to pdf format and selling it on my Esty shop.  Leave me a comment if you think you would be interested in buying it.

It’s really inspired me to make more…a Christmas one, a gnome one….. the possibilities are endless!

Here are some pictures of it with its beautiful model!

Little toy presents galore

Not much time to type but I have been trying to blog this for a while. A little mouse for a little girl and a little whale each for Larch and Sonny. With two more mice in the making.

Now where shall I put my toys and tights Mummy???

In these pretty little pouches of course!

Darceys’ Booties

A present from my brother to a friend for his new little girl.

Little Larch….here at last

So finally after months of exciting anticipation we met our new addition to te family. Larch Mabel was born at home on Friday 15th May at 9.44pm. She is currently snuggled up to me having a little sleep.
